Floss Your Mind

FLOSS YOUR MIND (EPHESIANS 4:23)
"And be renewed in the spirit of your mind."
Let us pray…
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much for the opportunity to once again gather together in your house to seek your face. Lord God, please let the words of my mouth be your words and give us all ears to hear that we may be exceedingly blessed according to the infinite riches of your grace and glory in and through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
Good morning beloved saints of God. What a great day to be alive—alive in Christ!
I was in the dentist’s office about 9 years ago, when I happened to see a small poster hanging on the wall. It was a sketch of a man with a piece of floss going in one ear and out the other. The caption over the drawing said, "floss your mind."
Floss your mind…what a profound statement. It may seem comical at first, but our minds, like our teeth, often accumulate harmful debris which leads to decay and suffering and death.
Just think for a moment of all the lies and filth and pornography and materialism and anti-Christian media that we have been subjected to over our lifetime. It seems at almost every turn human beings are subjected to harmful communication…whether it be through the television or radio or videos or the Internet or in person.
This world still hates Jesus Christ and wants to see him dead and buried. Just like 2 thousand years ago, the spirit of the world wants to see Jesus and his followers dead because the world cannot bear to hear Christ’s warnings of God’s judgment against sin.
And what better way to kill Christ’s followers than to saturate their minds with anti-God, anti-Christ, anti-purity, anti-righteousness thinking. For what goes into the mind eventually makes a home in the heart…and what is in the heart is what the person truly is…as Proverbs 23:7 states, "For as a man thinks in his heart, so he is."
The beloved Apostle Paul recognized that the mind was the gateway to the heart and exhorts us in Ephesians 4:23 to "be renewed in the spirit of your mind." I say again, we must be "renewed in the spirit of our mind."
Thus, we have an exhortation to "floss our mind." That is, we must renew our minds daily with the Holy Word of God (the Holy Scriptures), which cleanses our mind and drives out the worldly death…giving us life—abundant life in Christ! Our Lord Jesus said: "Now you are clean through the Word which I have spoken to you." (John 15:3). The Word of God, anointed by God’s Holy Spirit, truly does make us clean in heart, mind, soul, and strength.
Therefore beloved, we must saturate our minds with the Holy Word of God "daily" (and I emphasize "daily!") so that we will maintain our spiritual purity and spiritual life.
The Apostle Paul exhorts us to:
"Finally brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things." (Philippians 4:8)
I met the anointed Christian singer, Twila Paris, briefly after one of her concerts and this same scripture (Philippians 4:8) is what she gave to me on an autographed gospel tract.
It is so important beloved to focus on Jesus—on his holiness and righteousness—and not to focus on the world…for Jesus brings life and that more abundantly whereas the world brings death. As the Apostle Paul says, "set your mind on things above, not on things of the earth" (Colossians 3:2)…" for those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the flesh, but those who live according to the spirit, the things of the spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace" (Romans 8:5-6).
Paul goes on to say, "and do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God" (Romans 12:2).
So I ask you beloved, have you been flossing your mind daily with the Holy Word of God? Is your mind clean and pure with the Word of God? Oftentimes, it is easy to tell who has and who has not been soaking in the Word, as our Lord Jesus Christ says, "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." (Matthew 12:34).
If you have been saturating your mind with the Word of God, then you will be thinking and speaking the Word of God, in fact, as the great preacher C.H. Spurgeon has said you will have "bibline blood." You will be a fountain of living water to a hurting and dying world…
Beloved, in closing, I fervently exhort you to "floss your mind daily with the Holy Word of God." And never forget, an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure!" (Make sure you do not poison your mind with worldly filth, and you will have much less to floss!) As the Holy Scriptures say, "Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life." (Proverbs 4:23).
Let us pray…
Heavenly Father, we come to you with our diseased minds, our polluted minds, our filthy minds, our worldly minds, our sickly minds, and we humbly beseech you to heal us and make us clean and pure in Jesus’ name.
Lord God, please give us the grace, your amazing grace, to floss our minds daily with your Holy Scriptures, your Holy Word, that we may be filled to overflowing with your Holy Spirit and we may have life—and that more abundantly!
Please have mercy upon us God, and create in us clean hearts and minds, making us brand new in the image of Christ Jesus our Savior. Amen!
